A Workshop with Mental Health Professionals in Mumbai

iCALL – Initiating Concern for All is a Psychosocial Helpline, which offers counselling services by telephone and email to individuals in psychosocial distress and is an initiative of Tata institute of social sciences.

The workshop covered the history of kink and the earliest sources of reference to kink.
It went on to differentiate between paraphilia and paraphilic disorders and the role of consent.
We discussed the myths associated with kink and and the shame and taboos associated with it. Consent was discused extensively and ways of negotiating consent and the importance of consent was highlighted the importance of having kink aware mental health professionals was discussed and handouts were given to differentiate between kink and abuse. All in all it was a successful and educative workshop for all involved and we wish to continue having more of such workshops and hopefully create a directory of Kink aware MHPs
